Description
The former farmhouse, located 100 metres north of Westwood Hall, dates back to the early 17th century. It is two storeys tall with an attic and retains the cross-passage and service cell of what was likely a three-cell plan. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a plaintiled roof and an end chimney made of red brick. The windows are 19th and 20th-century casements, and there is a 19th-century six-panelled entrance door positioned at the cross-entry. Above the door is a well-crafted carved oak pediment, which includes the date 1650 and the initials B.G. within a shield, surrounded by carved foliage and remnants of red and green original colouring. This pediment may be original to the house, although the construction details suggest an earlier 17th-century style. Inside, there are good close-studding and stop-chamfered floor joists laid flat, as well as a wind-braced butt-purlin roof. A 19th-century pantiled rear outshut is also present. The farmhouse is associated with a partial medieval moat.
