Description
Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 15th century and mid 16th century. It is timber-framed and rendered, featuring a fully hipped thatched roof with a decorated ridge. The building has one storey and attics, with a three-cell plan that originally included an open hall, now modified to have a lobby entrance. The internal chimney stack has a plain rectangular shaft. There are two 2-light small-paned 20th-century casement windows and a plank door in a plain surround. The framing is exposed inside.
To the left of the stack is a mid 16th-century parlour block that showcases good close-studding, double roll-moulding, and leaf stops, with a bar on the ground floor ceiling beam. The joists feature a single shallow roll, and the fireplace lintel has matching leaf stops and double roll-moulding. The tops of the main posts are carved with large single leaves. The two-bay hall area has undergone significant alterations: tie-beams have been cut to allow for upstairs access, and the former open truss has an arch-braced collar that appears to be a later addition. It is possible that a smoke-bay existed before the chimney stack at the upper end of the hall. The main beam of the inserted ceiling has a 6-inch chamfer with curved stops, and the joists are heavy and plain. The timbers of the service end partition remain, featuring two doorways with very shallow four-centred arched heads, and plain, rough joists in the former service rooms.
