Description
Shrub Farmhouse is a late 16th-century farmhouse featuring a two-cell end-chimney plan. It stands two storeys high with attics and is constructed of timber framing with plaster. The roof is slated, having originally been thatched, and there is an internal end chimney made of red brick from the 16th century. The windows are from the 18th century and have wrought iron casements. A 20th-century gabled entrance porch with a panelled door has been added. To the right, there is a mid to late 19th-century two-storey extension with two small-pane sash windows. The farmhouse displays good unmoulded framing throughout. Inside, there are twin service rooms that have been united, along with an original staircase featuring splat balusters at the top. The floor joists are chamfered and laid flat, while the attic floor joists are massive, unchamfered, and repurposed from a medieval house. The roof structure includes clasped purlins.
