Description
The Laurels is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with a mid-19th century extension. It features a timber frame that is partly clad with brick, and has both pantile and plaintile roofs. The building has a north-south range and a wing extending east at the southern end. The mid-19th century addition created the current south facade.
The exterior is two storeys high with an attic. The south front has a four-light casement window on the ground floor beneath a concrete lintel, with a four-panelled door to the left. On the first floor, there are two three-light casement windows. The roof is gabled with stepped gables on the east and west sides; the east gable has an internal stack with two octagonal flues. To the left of the facade, set back, is a 19th-century stepped gable-end of the north-south wing, featuring one three-light casement on each floor and a two-light window in the attic.
The early 17th-century parallel range to the north ends in a stepped brick gable facing the street, constructed with brick laid in English bond, and has two blocked first-floor windows. There is an internal gable-end stack with two polygonal flues. The brickwork returns into the otherwise timber-framed north front, which has two- and three-light 19th-century casements. The north-south range includes 20th-century casements. At the junction of the 17th-century ranges, there is a ridge stack with quadruple octagonal flues, linked beneath a concrete lintel. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of considerable interest.
