Description
Fressingfield Lodge is a farmhouse that consists of two sections, with the rear dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century and the front added in the early 19th century. The front range is made of red brick with rendered gable ends and features a glazed black pantiled roof. It has two storeys and three windows, which are flush-frame sashes with glazing bars set under flat brick arches. The entrance includes an inset six-panel door, where the upper four panels are glazed, along with a rectangular fanlight that has geometric glazing bars. The door has panelled reveals and a reeded architrave with corner roundels, and there is a 20th-century open porch. Gable stacks are present on this section.
The rear range is timber framed and plastered, also topped with a glazed black pantiled roof, and it is two storeys high with an internal stack. This part includes a two-bay former open hall with one-bay storied ends. The exposed framing in the end bays is well-preserved, and there are some original windows. Although part of the open truss remains, the original queen-post roof has been lost. There is a blocked four-centre arched doorway that led into the former cross-passage, which is now also blocked. Additionally, the remains of a medieval moat can be found on the property.
