Description
Zion Baptist Chapel, built in 1862, is a Baptist chapel located on Rishangles Eye Road. It is constructed of red brick with a white brick gable end facade facing west and features a slated roof. The building is single storey with a symmetrical facade that includes flanking pilaster strips and two narrow arched recesses, each containing a non-opening casement window with glazing bars. These windows are set under flat lintels supported by console brackets. Below each window, there is a gabled porch with a four-panel door divided into two leaves. The gable features an inscribed circular panel displaying the date of construction. The sides of the chapel have four bays with larger windows of a similar design set within square-headed recesses.
Attached to both the left and right sides of the facade are short lengths of contemporary wrought iron railings that end in square brick piers. Additional railings extend along the road frontage of the churchyard to the south. Inside, there is a gallery at the east end that includes five removable panels and two lower panels with sliding shutters, which are later alterations. The seating was reconfigured in 1985.
