Description

Ipswich Public Library is an early 20th-century building, constructed in 1924 by H Munro-Cautley. This red brick structure features stone dressings and consists of two storeys and a basement. At both the north and south ends of the façade, there are large gables flanked by octagonal castellated turrets. Each gable has a stone traceried window on the first storey, which is set within a stone pointed arch. The ground storey at the north end includes a segmental arched recessed doorway, adorned with a carved ornamental panel situated between the doorway arch and the window above. At the south end, there is a prominent mullioned and transomed window topped with a traceried parapet. Both gables are enhanced by stone carved niches at their apexes. The central section of the building features a range of four windows, with stone mullioned windows on the first storey and mullioned and transomed windows on the ground storey. A moulded stone band runs across the front at plinth level, and the roof is tiled.
