Description
Nos 14 and 14A on Northgate Street is a 17th-century house made of timber framing and plaster, featuring a jettied upper storey supported by a moulded bressumer. The front is decorated with plaster panels, and the central panel displays a 20th-century pargetted wreath inscribed with "14 North Gate." The building has two storeys and attics, with a four-window range consisting of 18th-century double-hung sash windows with glazing bars set in flush cased frames. There are two six-panel doors with wood moulded and shouldered architraves. The roof is tiled and includes four flat-headed dormers, also with double-hung sash windows featuring glazing bars, and a well-crafted modillioned eaves cornice. The building has been restored. It is part of a group of listed buildings in Northgate Street, which includes the Great White Horse Hotel and other nearby properties.
