Description
Nos 8 and 10 Northgate Street are a pair of early to mid 19th century houses built from grey gault brick, continuing the line of Nos 2 to 6 (even). No 10 has been painted. The buildings are three storeys high and feature a three-window range with three-light windows that have double-hung sashes; No 8 retains glazing bars. Each window is set within a slightly projecting stucco panel that rises through two storeys and is adorned with pilasters and cornices. The ground storey has 20th-century shops, and the roofs are covered with slate. These buildings are part of a group with other listed structures on Northgate Street, excluding the garden wall to No 9, and they also form a group with the Great White Horse Hotel on Tavern Street, as well as several other properties on Great Colman Street and St Margaret's Plain.
