Description
No. 2 St Nicholas Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with a rear wing added in the mid-19th century. The building features roughcast render over a brick and timber frame, and it has gabled roofs covered with old plain tiles at the front and Welsh slate on the rear wing. The structure is L-shaped, with a parallel range at the front and a right wing at the back. It stands two storeys tall and has a two-window range. A mid-20th century glazed door is set in a recessed entrance, accompanied by mid to late 19th century pilasters to the right. The ground floor has mid-20th century windows, while the first floor features mid to late 19th century plate-glass sash windows. The right-hand return elevation facing Friars Street has a similar sash window above mid-20th century fenestration. Inside, the building is noted for its late 17th century to early 18th century clasped-purlin roof. It is shown on the Joseph Pennington map of 1778 and is included for its group value.
