Description
This house was built around 1880. It was likely designed by JS Corder, with the addition of a north canted window bay in 1884, also by Corder. The building is constructed of white brick with slate roofs and is in the French Empire style. It is two storeys and has attics, with an irregular plan.
The entrance porch is located in the angle between the north and east wings and features a half-glazed door with margin lights and overlights. The porch is stuccoed and has a four-centred arch supported by a pair of unfluted Composite columns. Above the arch is a Greek key frieze within an entablature, topped by an open pierced balustrade. The front of the house has clasping corner pilasters, rusticated at the base and fluted above, with Composite capitals. A stuccoed, scalloped-headed niche sits to the right of the porch, along with a small single-pane sash window to the left.
The north front incorporates a canted window bay added in 1884, fitted with single-pane horned sashes. Above this bay is a truncated pyramid roof with a pedimented dormer and a single-pane horned sash window. The east return of the bay has a partly external stack. To the right of the bay is another section, featuring a scalloped-headed niche on a stuccoed apron above a swag draped between two keyed roundels; another partly external stack rises from this niche. The east return has a single bay with a tripartite sash window on the ground floor, and a pair of arched single-pane horned sash windows on the first floor. A circular iron window is in the roof. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
