Description
Pear Tree Villa is a former farmhouse dating to the late 16th century with alterations in the early 19th century. It has an L-shaped plan. The rear range is timber-framed and rendered, with a 20th-century concrete plain tile roof, and features an internal chimney-stack with a plain red brick shaft. The windows are a mix of 3-light and 2-light casements, some replacements from the 20th century, others older, with pintle hinges and remnants of square leaded panes. Inside, this range originally comprised three cells and is now two, representing the original farmhouse with an internal chimney and cross-entry form. Internal features include plain framing and ceilings, arched braces to the end walls, and assembly marks on many components. The roof has clasped side purlins and principals, cut away for purlin insertion, but not diminished. The early 19th-century front range replaces the service area of the older house and is constructed of red brick with a black glazed pantiled roof and wide eaves overhang. It has two end chimney-stacks, and on the upper floor, three small-paned sash windows sit within deep reveals; two similar windows are on the ground floor, flanking a central doorway. The doorway features a 4-panelled door with a rectangular fanlight, panelled linings, plain pilasters, an architrave, and is supported on moulded console brackets. Inside, a straight flight of stairs has turned balusters and a plain handrail.
