Description
Rose Hall is a building dating from 1739, with an early 19th century wing added on the right side, which is a single storey. The main block is two storeys high with an attic and features two dormer lights. It is constructed of red brick and has a hipped slate roof with a parapet. The building has a moulded cornice and five sash windows with exposed frames and flat arches, with the central window designed in a Venetian style. The entrance includes an eight-panel wooden door with panelled reveals, fluted Doric pilasters, triglyphs, and a cornice decorated with fret ornament. Inside, there is a well-preserved entrance hall and staircase featuring a panelled dado, heavy turned balusters, and an oak handrail, along with some modillion cornices and an enriched mantel. Rose Hall was once the residence of Captain Boycott's family, who was famously associated with the term "boycott" due to the isolation tactics used against him by the Irish Land Leaguers. The building is part of a group that includes Nos 30 to 34 (even), which is a Congregational church, and Nos 38 to 52 (even).
