Description
32 Market Hill is a shop premises dating from the early 18th century. The building has two storeys and is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, featuring two outer square panels and a central oval panel on the upper storey at the front. The roof is covered with plaintiles and there is a heavy modillion cornice. The upper storey has two windows with clear glass. The shop front, which dates from the mid-19th century, is designed with four Greek Doric half-columns and an entablature.
The side elevation facing Church Street is three storeys high, plastered, and lined with ashlar, with the top storey being an early 19th-century addition. The front range has three blank windows in the gable end, along with flat pilasters that have moulded capitals. There are various other windows, all of which were formerly sash windows. The building also features two six-panelled doors with raised fielded panels. Additionally, some parts of the rear ground storey exhibit poor quality late framing.
