Description
The Crown Hotel is a 17th century building with an 18th century facade. It is two storeys high and features a partly timber-framed structure that is plastered and lined to resemble ashlar stone. The building has a plinth and a tiled eaves soffit. There are six sash windows with flush frames, which now have only central glazing bars. A modern entrance has been added, which is incorporated into the original coachway.
Historically, the hotel was owned and occupied by Peter Pett, who was Samuel Pepys' predecessor at the Admiralty and is mentioned in Pepys' Diary.
The Crown Hotel, along with Nos 4 to 34 (even), forms a group of buildings.
