Description
Barclays Bank, located at No. 4 Church Street, is a building that dates back to the early 19th century, with a possible early 17th century or even 16th century wing at the rear. This rear wing features some panelling and a notable fragment of an enriched ceiling, which may have more details hidden beneath a later false ceiling.
The front block is three stories tall, constructed of red brick, and has a band below the parapet that includes segmental-headed brick panels above the windows. There are four sash windows, which now have few glazing bars, flat arches, and stone cills. The entrance to the bank is modern, while the arched house door is an 8-panel design with panelled reveals and a fanlight featuring radial bars. The ground floor is painted up to the first-floor cill band, and the modern interior and entrance are left in a stone case.
