Description
Moat Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse that has been entirely encased in 19th-century red brick, featuring a pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, arranged in a three-cell form. It has three windows, which are 19th-century three-light casements, each with a single horizontal glazing bar and set beneath segmental arches. A mid-20th-century glazed door is located where the cross-passage would be. There is an internal stack and lean-to additions at the rear.
Inside, the farmhouse boasts a good interior with much exposed timbering. At the service end, there are original paired service doorways with arched heads and later boarded doors. In the parlour, two original windows with chamfered mullions have been uncovered, and there is evidence of other original windows throughout the house. The staircase features a newel design, and the roof is supported by a single row of clasped purlins with arched wind-bracing.
