Description

This is an early 19th-century house in Lowestoft, later converted into eight flats and altered in the late 20th century. The front is rendered and built of whitewashed brick, topped with a pantile roof. The two-bay facade has two storeys and a dormer attic. The main entrance is a six-panelled door with the upper two panels glazed, and above it is a glazed roundel set within a brick arch. A small sash window sits centrally above the entrance. The right-hand side of the facade has a nine-over-six round-headed sash window, also with a brick arch, and two six-over-six sashes are located on the first floor. The facade rises to a parapet, partially concealing a Mansard roof with two dormers, each fitted with two-over-two horned sashes. A truncated north stack is shared with the neighboring building at 2 High Street, while a gable-end stack sits internally to the south. The rear elevation displays three stepped sections to accommodate the sloping ground; the middle storey features a deep bow window with three twelve-over-six sashes, and the remaining windows are of mixed styles. The interior is now connected to 2 High Street, with a late 20th-century communicating door featuring panelled reveals. A curved staircase hall contains a stick baluster staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail.
