Description
The United Reformed Church, originally built as an independent chapel, dates from 1836 to 1837 and was reseated in 1894. It was constructed by builder Samuel Fruer, with the reseating carried out by Pells & Son. The church is made of red brick, partly covered in stucco, and has a colourwashed front with a pantile roof.
The exterior features a two-storey, three-bay front with a gable facing the street. The bays are highlighted by giant Tuscan pilasters. The center bay has a recessed porch at the ground floor, flanked by pilasters, with double leaf doors on either side providing access to the chapel. The outer bays on the ground floor contain 16-pane windows with stuccoed lintels, and the first floor windows are similar. A pedimented gable at the top encloses a clock face. The left side of the building has four bays, each with 16-pane windows on both floors, matching those on the front.
The interior was not inspected, but a previous description from 1971 mentions a galleried interior.
