DUNWICH ST. JAMES'S STREET The Ship Inn

GV II Public house, dated ‘W + E 1868’ on upper east gable, adjoined by the eastern half of a four-bay C18 house on its west side (now incorporated into the public house); the western half of the C18 house is a separate dwelling known as Ship House (NHLE: 1030714).

Earlier part: red brick, pantiles to front, plain tiles to rear; two storeys and attic; two window range, sashes with glazing bars in flush frames to ground floor, two-light small pane casements to first floor, plaster cornice, one hipped dormer.

Main range: red brick, plain tiled roof with crest tiles; two storeys and attic; four window range, two-light and three-light casements with heavy mullions and transoms and metal glazing bars in geometric pattern, flat brick arches; two doorways: one four-panel door with the upper two arched panels glazed, one inset six-panel door with the upper two panels glazed; the window and door openings have splayed reveals. Three stacks, each with two tall octagonal flues with moulded bases and caps. Two gabled dormers to rear.
