Description

The Ship Inn is a public house dated ‘W + E 1868’ on the upper east gable, and it is adjoined by the eastern half of a four-bay 18th-century house on its west side, which is now incorporated into the public house. The western half of the 18th-century house is a separate dwelling known as Ship House.

The earlier part of the building is constructed of red brick with pantiles on the front and plain tiles on the rear. It has two storeys and an attic, featuring a two-window range with sashes that have glazing bars in flush frames on the ground floor, and two-light small pane casements on the first floor. There is also a plaster cornice and one hipped dormer.

The main range is also made of red brick and has a plain tiled roof with crest tiles. It has two storeys and an attic, with a four-window range that includes two-light and three-light casements featuring heavy mullions and transoms, along with metal glazing bars arranged in a geometric pattern. The windows have flat brick arches, and there are two doorways: one has a four-panel door with the upper two arched panels glazed, and the other is an inset six-panel door with the upper two panels glazed. The window and door openings have splayed reveals. There are three stacks, each with two tall octagonal flues that have moulded bases and caps, and two gabled dormers are located at the rear.
