Description

The Homestead is a former farmhouse dating from the 16th century, which underwent significant alterations in 1936 when a parallel range was added at the rear. The building has a timber-framed core that is now encased in 19th and 20th-century red brick, topped with a plain tiled roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a three-cell layout. There are four windows featuring 20th-century two-light mullioned casements with diamond-leaded panes, all set under flat soldier-course arches.

The internal stack includes two 20th-century detached octagonal flues with star caps made of three courses of pointed bricks, along with additional ornamental brick courses below. An inset panel is present at the base of the stack. There is a gable end stack to the right with a single flue in a matching style, positioned slightly forward of the ridge. The entrance doors are from the 20th century and located at the gable ends.

Inside, the hall features closely spaced unchamfered joists, and the rear wall at first floor level has two original windows, with evidence suggesting there was a third. Some of the timber frame remains exposed. The roof structure includes clasped purlins with arched wind-bracing.
