SOTTERLEY SOUTHWELL LANE Sotterley War Memorial

GV II

War memorial. c.1920. Stone ashlar. The memorial is in the form of a wayside cross and stands on a stepped plinth. The shaft and cross on top are of octagonal section, perhaps intending to echo the octagonal plan form of the cemetery chapel nearby (q.v.). This is a well-detailed First World War memorial forming a good group with the cemetery chapel at a rural cross-roads.
