Description
Weston Hall is a fragment of a mansion dating from the late 16th century, likely built for John Rede, who died in 1605. The structure was largely demolished in 1821 after a fire. The surviving parts include the south wing and one bay of the central range, along with a rear wing from the late 18th or early 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick and features a brick dentil eaves cornice. The roof is primarily covered with plain tiles, while the later wing has pantiles.
The hall has two storeys and attics. The gable end of the wing is crowstepped and includes octagonal corner buttresses topped with moulded brick finials. This gable end features original mullion and transom windows arranged in diminishing sizes, with five, four, and three lights. These windows are stuccoed, with rusticated stucco surrounds and triangular pediments. The inner return of the wing and the central range have similar ground floor windows with five and six lights, respectively, while the upper windows have been blocked, although parts of the stucco surrounds remain visible. There is one hipped plastered dormer with a circular window that has leaded glass.
The wing also has an external stack with two octagonal flues on moulded bases, and various sash windows at the rear, showing some evidence of original window openings. A second original stack with three octagonal flues is located against the rear wall. A mid-20th century entrance door is found in the rebuilt gable end to the right. The interior of the building has been modernised.
