Description
Old Lodge is a building that likely began as part of the service buildings for the old Benhall Lodge. It was adapted and enlarged to function as a farmhouse when the current Benhall Lodge was constructed on a new site in 1810. The main part of the building dates from the 18th century, with an early 19th-century wing to the east.
The main range is made of red brick and has a plain tile roof, standing two storeys high. The south facade features a four-window range with various casements and flat arches, along with two blocked doorways. There is a brick band at the first-floor level and a plaster cove cornice. At the west end, there was a brewery/laundry that is now derelict, which includes timber lattice work and internal hinged shutters on the window openings.
The east wing is constructed of white brick and has a slated roof, also standing two storeys high. It has a two-window range with sashes that have glazing bars in cased frames and flat brick arches. This wing features brick pilasters, a brick band at both the first floor and eaves levels, a plaster cove cornice, and pedimented gables. There is a modern glazed door on the south side and a six-panel door with a rectangular fanlight on the north side.
