Description
The water tower, which includes an attached engine house, is located 60 meters southeast of Sotterley Hall and dates from the late 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a pyramidal plain-tiled roof topped with a wind vane. The tower is square in shape and has pilaster strips at the corners, along with a corbelled brick band between each floor. The entrance consists of a semi-circular arched doorway with boarded doors. Each of the two main upper floors has a single semi-circular arched opening on the south and west sides only. Above these openings is a brick cornice, leading to a narrower stage that houses the water tanks. The attached engine house, built in the mid-19th century, is a single storey and also made of red brick, featuring rusticated quoins that match those of the Hall, and has a corrugated iron roof. Inside, there is a Lister oil engine.
