Description
Numbers 147 and 147A are a pair of shops with flats, dating from the early 19th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of colourwashed brick, with a roof of black-glazed pantiles. The building is two storeys high with a dormer attic. The front features two late 19th-century shop fronts with plate-glass windows and tiled dados, topped by a coved hood supported on consoles. Above the shops are two 8/8 sash windows, separated by a blind window. The gabled roof has two flat-topped dormers, and there are internal gable-end stacks.
The south flank includes a screen wall constructed of gault brick. This wall features four fielded arched panels at ground level, mirroring those found in the now-demolished Methodist Chapel to the west. A dentil cornice sits below a swept parapet. The presence of two stacks suggests a double-pile plan, although the section served by the western stack is a low-hipped addition.
