Description
The Green is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century and was significantly restored and extended from two cottages in the early 20th century by the artist Ernest Crofts RA. The building features a timber frame with a half-timbered facade added during the restoration. The south gable end is constructed of flint with brick dressings on the ground floor and weatherboarding above, while the north gable end is made of brick up to the eaves level and plastered above. It has a thatched roof. The rear extensions are made of rendered and weatherboarded brick with a plain tiled roof. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a four-window range featuring early 20th-century casements with square leaded panes. There is one oriel window on the ground floor and three on the first floor, along with an asymmetrical doorway that has an early 20th-century boarded door. The house has one internal stack and one external stack on the south gable, both with altered tops. Inside, there is good quality exposed timberwork, original panelling in one ground floor room, and the extensions include re-used 16th-century timbers.
