Description

The buildings at numbers 81 and 83 Thoroughfare date to 1745, as indicated by the date on the lead gutters, and represent the core of the structure. They are two storeys and have an attic, with one original dormer window and four modern additions. The buildings are constructed of red brick and feature a first-floor band, a first-floor sill band, an ogee bracket cornice, and a panelled parapet. The central portion of the facade projects slightly, displaying three windows. There are a total of nine windows, all sash windows with flush frames and flat arches containing stucco keys. The central window is arched with radial glazing bars at its head. Elsewhere, modern windows feature vertical glazing bars. Number 81 has a six-panel door, originally fielded, now with modern glazing inserted in place of two panels. Number 83 has an eight-panel door, also originally fielded, set within panelled reveals. Both entrances are topped with flat arches featuring stucco keys. Evidence suggests an earlier building may lie behind number 81. Inside, a fine red pine staircase is present, featuring spiral turned balusters and shaped brackets to the cut string. There is also a panelled room, a hall with square fluted columns and pilasters, and a panelled dado. Numbers 63 to 83 (odd) form a group.
