Description

Selwyn House is an 18th-century building, altered in the early 19th century, located on Thoroughfare. It is a three-story structure built of brick and stucco, finished to resemble ashlar, with a rusticated ground floor. The roof is slate-covered. The building has three windows per floor, featuring 3-light casements with glazing bars and flat heads. A small, segmental cast iron railed balcony is present. The front door is an 8-panel design with diagonal fielded panels, set within a frame decorated with a rope motif and roundels at the angles. A segmental radial bar fan is above the door. The windows to either side of the entrance have segmental heads with rusticated voussoirs, mirroring the door’s design. Inside, a good spiral well stair is a notable feature, complete with a mahogany handrail. Selwyn House forms a group with numbers 40 to 44 (even), 52 to 84 (even), and 90 to 94 (even) on Thoroughfare.
