Description

9 Church Street dates from the late 18th century. It is a two-storey and attic building with three gabled dormers, and forms part of a group with numbers 1 to 25 (odd). Constructed of red brick, the main part of the building features a band, plinth, wooden ogee bracket cornice, and tile roof covering. It contains five windows, recessed sash windows with glazing bars and flat arches, and stone cills. A blocked arched doorway is centrally located; the original eight-panel door, featuring an arched fanlight with glazing bars, has been moved to the side. There is a single-storey and attic wing to the left with one dormer and two arched windows with radial glazing bars at the heads. At the rear, there is a modernised wing forming a courtyard, with modern wrought iron gates and railings that have been added during conversion to business premises. To the left of this wing, the northern end of Paget House is incorporated, with a canted oriel window at the first floor and two further windows, also in red brick and slate.
