Description

The Church of All Saints is a parish church located in Wickham Market. It features a nave, chancel, and octagonal tower that date back to the 14th century, while the aisles and south chantry chapel were added in the 15th century. The church underwent significant restoration in the mid-19th century. The main structure is built from flint with stone quoins and dressings, topped with plain tiled roofs that have parapets on the gables of the nave, chancel, and both aisles.

The tower, situated on the south side, serves as the main entrance porch, featuring a two-centred pointed arch made of stone voussoirs. This arch is supported by three engaged columns with capitals. The tower consists of three stages with thin string courses, and the upper stage has Perpendicular louvered bell openings on all eight sides. It is crowned by a slender lead spire with a chevron pattern, surrounded by a castellated parapet. The tower houses six bells, most of which date from the 17th century.

The windows of the church are a mix of Decorated and Perpendicular styles, primarily clear glazed. Inside, the church has a plain interior that has been largely restored in the 19th century, closely resembling the style of the 14th century. The chancel features a simple plastered barrel vaulted ceiling with painted decoration. To the left of the 15th-century south chapel is the former entrance to the rood loft. The font is from the 14th century, octagonal in shape with a tracery panelled stem and crocketed gables on the bowl. The south wall of the chancel includes sedilia and a piscina. The church is listed as Grade II* for its external appearance and spire.
