Description
Heveningham Hall Orangery is an orangery built around 1790 by James Wyatt. It is constructed of brick and stucco, designed to resemble ashlar except on the facade. The building is a single storey with a symmetrical nine-bay facade, where the bays are separated by Composite pilasters. It features a semi-circular portico supported by four detached columns and two three-quarter engaged columns. The frieze above the pilasters is decorated with paterae and swags, and there is a dentilled cornice and a balustraded parapet. The two end bays are narrower and unglazed, each containing a semi-domed niche with a Coade stone statue, and above each niche is a Coade stone panel. The remaining seven bays have full-width semi-circular headed sash windows. The returns are three bays long and also divided by pilasters. The floor was modified in the mid-19th century, and the roof structure dates from the 20th century. The statues in the niches are dated 1789.
