Description
Fordley Hall is a house dating from the late 16th century, with both wings extended in the late 1960s. It has an L-shaped plan and is timber framed and plastered. The roof is mainly covered with plain tiles, except for the front of the main wing, which has glazed pantiles. The building is two storeys high with an attic. The main wing, which faces the road, features a five-window range, predominantly with 20th-century casements. The ground floor windows have square leaded panes, while the first floor includes one original 10-light mullion window. There is a doorway with a mid-20th-century gabled porch and a boarded door, along with an internal stack. Inside, there is some high-quality exposed timberwork. The wall posts that support the main first floor beam in the west wing have bulbous moulded heads with scalloping above and below, similar to those found at Macheath in Middleton Moor. Additionally, there are some ovolo-moulded beams in the north wing.
