Description

Moor Farmhouse is a timber-framed farmhouse dating to the early 16th century. A brick south gable was added in the mid-16th century when part of the house was raised, and a rear extension was added in the mid-20th century. The house is timber framed and plastered, with red brick gable ends, brick casing to the ground floor of the facade, and a modern concrete pantile roof. It has two storeys and an attic. The front has a three-window range with mid-20th century casement windows with square leaded panes. A mid-20th century lean-to porch provides access to a boarded door, and there are two gabled dormers to the rear.

The south gable is particularly notable, being crowstepped with square finials above the corbelled eaves. It contains a pair of windows at ground and first floor levels, the first-floor windows being blocked. Above each window is a short moulded brick band, and over each band is a unique raised brick ornament consisting of an upright oblong with three-quarter circles above and below, repeated three times above each window, with slight alterations on the first floor. A central recessed blank panel sits at attic level. A large stack features three detached octagonal flues, with moulded bases, the caps of which are missing.

A first-floor bedroom to the south contains a good brick fireplace with a four-centred arch, above which is a fine plaster overmantel decorated with foliated and floral motifs and Tudor roses in the spandrels. This room also has ovolo-moulded ceiling joists.
