Description
The Chestnuts is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century, with an early 17th-century cross wing to the west and later additions at the junction of the two ranges. The building is timber framed and plastered in panels, featuring a plain tiled roof, except for the west slope of the cross wing, which is pantiled. It has two storeys and an attic. There are various 18th and 19th-century casement windows, some of which have square and diamond leaded glass. The east gable of the main range features paired sash windows on the ground floor, a carved tie beam, and a notable 18th-century attic window with diamond leaded panes. The doorway in the side wall of the 19th-century addition has a half-glazed door with panelled reveals, a frieze, and a cornice. The main range includes an internal stack with three hexagonal flues arranged in a sawtooth pattern, while the cross wing has a gable end stack.
