Description
The service range located immediately southwest of Hill Farmhouse is a building that dates back to the 17th century but was largely rebuilt in the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It stands at right angles to the farmhouse. Originally, it was probably timber framed, but it is now constructed of red brick, topped with a roof of glazed black pantiles.
The building was formerly two storeys with an attic, but the intermediate floors have been removed, and the interior is now cement-rendered. Most of the window and door openings have been altered, although there is one 18th-century window on the first floor that features chamfered reveals. The gable ends have parapets with tumbled brickwork, and the front gable end contains two blocked openings at attic level, where there was originally an integral stack. The roof, which dates from the 17th century, consists of three bays supported by one row of butt purlins and features arched wind-bracing.
