Description

The Old Forge is a timber-framed building dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. Originally a single house built at a right angle to the street, it now forms an L-shaped plan with the addition of a later timber-framed and plastered wing on the east side. The building is two storeys and attics; the upper storey is jettied. Casement windows are present, with some original windows featuring moulded mullions on the west side. The roof is thatched and includes two dormers on the front, one of which is gabled. The west block has a prominent 16th-century central chimney stack with three octagonal shafts. Inside, the west block contains a good 16th-century brick fireplace.
