Description
The Church of St Margaret is a small 13th-century flint church located in Upper Somerton. It features a blocked Norman north doorway that has one order of shafts with scalloped heads. The west tower is supported by diagonal buttresses and has a castellated parapet adorned with flint and stone chequer work. The chancel and chancel chapel date from the early 14th century. The east window is in the Perpendicular style and includes early 14th-century shafting on the inside, along with a shafted squint. Inside, there is a fine octagonal Jacobean pulpit with ornamented panels and a Jacobean or early Stuart communion rail. The 15th-century octagonal font is intricately carved with rose and shield designs. The church is recognized for its architectural and historical significance.
