Description

The Church of St James is a 15th-century church built from flint pebbles with stone dressings, located on Upper Street in Stanstead. The west tower, which is older than the main structure, features diagonal buttresses and a castellated parapet. The church underwent significant restoration in the late 19th century. Inside, there are cambered tie beams with arched braces and trefoil spandrels, and the corbels are intricately carved as angels. The north doorway and chancel doorway date back to the 14th century. The church is recognized for its architectural and historic significance.
