Description

Bayton's Farmhouse is a timber-framed and plastered house of medieval origin, featuring a cross wing at the south end. The main block has one storey and attics, while the cross wing has two storeys. The windows are 20th-century casements. Half of the main block was originally a hall house, with the rest added later, likely when the floor was inserted and the roof raised. The cross wing jetties on the upper storey at the front, supported by exposed joists that show the remains of shafts and carved capitals. Beneath the jetty, there are two medieval heads carved in wood. In the gable of the cross wing, there is an 18th-century globe fire sign. The roof is tiled and features a large 20th-century dormer in the main block.
