Description

The buildings at 21 and 23 Friars Street are likely of 17th-century origin, though significantly altered in the 19th century. They are two-storey timber-framed buildings with plastered walls and tiled roofs; number 21 has machine tiles. Number 21 features a ground-floor shop with an early 19th-century shallow, wooden bow window, incorporating reeded pilasters, and two doorways. One doorway has a blank arched fanlight with radial bars. To the right is an early 19th-century flat shop front within a wooden case with slender pilasters. Number 23 has a simpler shop front. The first floor has flush-frame sash windows with glazing bars, two panes to one window.
