Description
The dovecote located to the south-west of Kentwell Hall is an 18th-century structure made of red brick and has a square shape. It features a raised brick band that runs horizontally around the building. On the east side, there are three small high-level casement windows and a central doorway. The roof is tiled and pyramid-shaped, with a cornice-moulded platform at the top, which is topped by an open cupola that has a small "Diocletian" access opening on each side. This dovecote is noted to be the largest in Suffolk, containing approximately 144 brick-built nesting boxes on each wall. It also has a revolving access ladder that operates on a central post and is still in perfect working order.
