Description
This is a late 18th-century watermill located on Lower Street in Sproughton. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a hipped roof covered with glazed black pantiles. It stands four storeys tall and has five bays. The left and right bays have blind recessed brick panels beneath segmental arches, while the second and fourth bays contain 12-light timber casements beneath similar arches. The central bay features a boarded door on both the ground and first floors, with the ground floor door set beneath a flat arch, and a two-storey Lucum above. There are four round iron ties visible on the second and third floors.
The left-hand return side has double boarded doors and three blind recessed brick panels, with ties on the first, second, and third floors. The rear of the building mirrors the front elevation but has a plain central bay without openings. Beneath the mill, there is a mill race that is fed through two brick arches under a brick wall with a stone parapet, which is set forward from the mill building. The mill was in operation until 1947 and currently has no internal fittings or machinery.
