Description

Mill House is a house that was formerly divided into cottages, dating from around 1600, with later alterations in the 17th century, 19th century, and beyond. The building is timber framed, rendered, and brick, with some sections colourwashed, and features Marley tile roofs. It has a long two-storey range with cellars, likely constructed in two phases. The windows are scattered, with the ground floor primarily featuring three-light timber casements and the first floor having metal casements. There is a partially glazed four-panel door located under a brick gabled porch, situated between this range and a cross wing. The axial brick stack interrupts the roof line at the stack.

The taller two-storey cross wing has a front that is timber framed but encased in brick, which was likely done in the early 19th century when the wing was extended to the rear. Both the ground and first floors of this wing have three-light timber casements, and the ground floor window retains its sliding shutter. On the left return, there are two sashes with glazing bars on each floor, some of which are from the 20th century, all beneath segmental arches. A dentil course is present at the eaves, and there is an axial brick stack.

Inside, some of the frame is exposed, and there are reused timbers. A large stack features inglenook fireplaces on each side, one of which has a faggot oven, along with chamfered bressummers and beams. The joists are flat and square, with some made of pine.
