Description
79 and 80 Church Street is a timber-framed and plastered building dating from the 16th to 17th century, featuring a medieval cross wing at the north-east end. The roof is tiled, and the building has been renovated. It stands two storeys high, with the ground storey displaying exposed timber-framing. The upper storey jetties out across the entire front, with the cross wing positioned at a slightly lower level than the main block, supported by curved brackets that have carved capitals of former shafts. The bargeboards of the cross wing are intricately carved with thistle or teazle designs, symbols of the wool trade. The front has three modern casement windows with glazing bars and four-panel doors. Inside, the building features moulded beams and an open fireplace.
