Description
The gateway at Monkey Lodge was built in 1861 for John Berners. It is constructed from white brick and ashlar, featuring wrought iron elements. The design includes a central carriage entrance flanked by pedestrian gates on either side. The gateway is supported by banded, pilastered piers with bases and cornices. The lower outer piers are connected to Monkey Lodge on the left, while the right pier has a cornice and a hall finial. The central double gates are adorned with arrow-head bars, a middle rail featuring encircled IB motifs, a lower rail, and dog bars, with curved braces at the upper part. The outer gates are similar in style. There are likely later additions of scrolled lamp brackets on the main piers, with the right pier still holding intact carriage lamps. This gateway serves as the entrance to Woolverstone Hall.
