Description
Freston Lodge is a house completed in 1841, with later additions and alterations, built for the Venn family. The structure is made of brick and has a stucco finish, topped with a slate roof. It stands two storeys high and features a main range of five bays, with a central pedimented breakforward of three bays. To the left, there is a two-storey recessed range and a further, lower, recessed addition at the far left.
The central projecting Doric porch, which has a frieze and a mutule cornice, contains half-glazed double-leaf doors flanked by pilasters. The windows are 12-pane sashes, some of which are horned, and there is a band at the first floor level. The building also has a cornice and a pediment. The left wing features a half-glazed door to the right and a 12-pane sash, along with a first-floor band and 6-pane sashes above. The further addition includes 12-pane sashes. The right return wall has six bays, with a French window and 12-pane sashes. Inside, the lodge has later 19th-century features and 20th-century detailing in an 18th-century style.
