Description

Manor Farmhouse is a house dating from the early to mid 16th century, with alterations in the mid 19th century. It is constructed of timber framing, red brick, and has plain tile roofs. The building has a complex plan, initially comprising a two-bay cross wing, extended to the rear in the 19th century by a third bay. A 19th-century brick range is attached to the right, incorporating an earlier build, while a 19th-century service wing is to the left.

The right-hand wing is 1½ storeys high, built of red brick with an early red brick plinth at the rear and in part of the right-hand gable. It has two 2-light casement windows with diamond-leaded panes, each with a hood mould. There are three similar half-dormer casements with diamond-leaded panes, with the gable ends laid in a pattern of red and blue brickwork. The right-hand return features a 19th-century shaped gable with four ball finials. It has an external offset stack, square with two diagonal shafts and oversailing caps, along with a similar axial stack.

The gabled cross wing is timber-framed, but the ground floor is encased in brick, with the upper floor retaining some applied timberwork and a moulded bressummer. Each floor has a three-light leaded casement window. The single-storey left-hand wing also has a shaped gable with four ball finials, a boarded half-door, and a three-light leaded casement beneath a segmental head.

Inside, the cross wing has a crown post roof with long braces, and is said to retain original rafters. A blocked ground floor window is also present. The 19th-century wing has applied timbers intended to simulate a timber frame. Reused tie beams are visible in the left-hand wing.
