Description
The Swan Hotel is a Grade II* listed building located on the east side of Lavenham High Street. It is a timber-framed and plastered structure, likely dating from the 14th to 15th century. The hotel features cross wings at both the north and south ends, with jettied upper storeys supported by exposed joists. There is a small gable with a jettied upper storey on the north side of the south cross wing. The roofs are tiled. The timber framing is predominantly visible on the west front, which also has a return frontage on Water Street, showcasing pargetted emblems of the wool trade, including a mitre, fleur-de-Lys, and spur rowel. The building includes modern mullioned and transomed windows designed in an old style. It has two storeys and extensive cellars. On the Water Street front, there is a large gable that has been restored and renovated, featuring exposed timber framing and old-style mullioned and transomed windows. Part of the ground storey is faced in red brick.
