Description
Nos 67 and 68 on Water Street are a timber-framed and plastered building dating from the 15th to 16th century, featuring a cross wing at the west end and a tiled roof. The cross wing displays carved bargeboards and remnants of intricate floral pargetting on the upper storey. Adjoining the west side of the cross wing is No 69, which is set back to the south, creating a complex arrangement of gabled wings and blocks. The building stands two storeys tall, with the upper storey jettied at the front on exposed joists, and the east end showcasing exposed timber-framing. The cross wing includes a 4-light bar and transom leaded casement window, while the ground storey has two 2-light leaded casements. The main block features a small shop window with glazing bars and a doorway that appears to be from the 18th century. Additionally, the upper storey has a loft storage doorway. Historically, the main block was used as a store and shop for the former forge located opposite at Nos 7 to 9.
